History: Started as a church plant through the labor of Abner G. Stolzfus of Maple Grove, PA. First named 'Hebrew Mennonite Fellowship' as a community Bible study, later named 'Mennonite House of Friendship' when established in 1957. Changed name to Friendship Community Church in late 60's to welcome all persons from the surrounding community. John and Irene Smucker were the first pastor couple ('57-'79) and Pastor Billie L. Thompson ('88-'99) was the first and only African-American Bishop in the Atlantic Coast Conference.
