History:   As early as 1926 Rev. J.A. Heiser of Fisher, Ill., visited Arthur with a vision of a Mennonite church. For 10 years there were those from the Arthur area who worshiped at East Bend Mennonite Church at Fisher from time to time. In October, 1936, the Obie Bontrager family opened their home at 419 N. Elm in Arthur for Sunday afternoon services. In 1938 the abandoned Union Prairie Church south of Arthur was used as a place of worship, until 1939 when a used church building at the corner of East Progress Street and South Poplar Street in Arthur was purchased. The Arthur congregation established a charter membership of 57 members Sept. 15, 1940, and joined the Illinois Mennonite Conference. Ground was broken for the church building at 710 E. Park on Aug. 1, 1948.
